J & R Communications and Electronics,
Inc. emerged on the scene in April
1995, and since that time has become known across north
Mississippi as the "go to" people for innovations in 2-way radio,
paging and closed-circuit TV. Owners Robert
and Janette Palmer started the business from their home and
within a few months had outgrown the space that was available.
Having used space in various automotive shops in the area for
installation of mobile radio equipment and mobile phones, they
realized the need for a permanent facility that would house both
their operational office and offer space for equipment repair as
well as room for vehicular installation. In the fall of 1995 acreage
was purchased just north of the intersection of Highway 45 and Ripley
Road. In the spring of 1996 construction was begun on the facility
that they had often dreamed about. In June of that year, it
became a reality when they moved in.
Over the next few years, the electronics line was expanded to
consumer items such as CB
radios, scanners and video navigation
equipment. As more "walk-in" customers became the norm, a need was
seen for a full showroom with equipment and accessories on display.
In 1999 the need for more space was realized and several hundred
square feet of showroom space, office space and storage was added.
Early in the beginning of business, J & R Communications
was able to secure a dealership from Kenwood Communications, a
50-year old manufacturer of electronic equipment. This
line has become the backbone of the business, along with
dealerships for Maxon Land Mobile Radio, Midland Radio, E. F.
Johnson Radio, and, in 2005, BK-Relm Radio.
In December of 2002, J & R Communications purchased Electronic
Specialists, Inc. of Tupelo and has continued to operate both
companies since that time.
A new product line of XM Satellite Radio was added in the fall
of 2005, and J & R Communications continues to seek new
avenues in electronics in which to better serve their customer
base.
